Zhong Gallery •∙ Berlin

Founded in 2011 by Gaowen Zhu in Berlin, Zhong Gallery is the first Chinese-­‐invested gallery in Europe. Adjoining to the Mitte and the Museum Island, Zhong Gallery is located in a central borough of Berlin with prestigious reputation in art and culture. As a core cluster of contemporary art organizations and cultural activities, this area has attracted artists, architects, designers, art medium and creative workers worldwide.

Zhong Gallery aims to prompt and support Chinese contemporary art and artists overseas, and to foster the communication of art between China and Western countries. Exhibitions it has held includes Dawn – New Art from China, Shedding – New Art from China, Mulanxi – Unsettled, I am the Landscape, Attitude – Berlin Film Festival Documentary Show, Problems and Standpoints, Media and Experiment, Chinese Contemporary Ink Art, and so forth, all arousing widely public attention.

Zhong Gallery •∙ Beijing

Zhong Gallery steps into Beijing in 2013, located in one of the Central Business District—Kerry Center, and adjacent to the China World Trade Center Tower III and the China Central Television headquarter. With experiences of exhibition and art promotion in Berlin, Zhong Gallery has grown rapidly and has become an organization for Chinese contemporary art with international insights. Aiming to be a communication platform for international art, Zhong Gallery sustains and promotes promising Chinese contemporary artists with potential, and provides a platform for the demonstration of Western contemporary art in China.

The professionals at Zhong Gallery is composed of experienced art practitioners from China, Germany, the United Kingdom, France, the United States, the Netherlands, Singapore and other countries, with career experiences in galleries, auction houses, art fund, media, art critic and private dealership. Zhong Gallery possesses also the academic support from authoritative critics and curators at home and aboard.

Taking the advantage of the art environment of China and Germany, Zhong Gallery is actively exploring brand new modes for Chinese-­‐Western art communication, enhancing the international dialogues between Chinese and Western artists, and updating art news to art organizations, art amateurs and art collectors.

Zhong Gallery •∙ Project

Contemporary Art in China, 1990-2012

Benefited from the affluent resources and vantages of its art space in Berlin, Zhong Gallery launched the project Contemporary Art in China, 1990-2012 at the end of 2012,with an intention to accomplish it within three years. The project contains five sections—Art Practice I: Problems and Standpoints, Art Practice II: Media and Experiment, Exhibition Experiment: Space and Production, Critic Practice: Presence and Knowledge, Organization•Media•Education•Market.

By means of literature review, exhibition series, case seminar and academic publication, Zhong Gallery has presented in the project the state of Chinese contemporary art from 1990 to 2012. Exhibitors include Shang Yang, Zhang Xiaogang, Wang Guangyi, Zhan Wang, Xu Bing, Ai Weiwei, Sui Jianguo, Wang Jianwei, Xu Zhen, He Yunchang, Zhang Peili, Wang Qingsong, Zhang Dali, Yang Jingsong, Yang Fudong, Hong Lei, Ma Liuming, Sun Yuan & Peng Yu, Yin Chaoyang, Liu Wei, Chen Yufan, Lu Zhengyuan etc. In the future, Zhong Gallery will unceasingly explore new academic possibility and support Chinese contemporary artists with innovative concepts and remarkable insights.
